OPay Innovation Challenge 2026 — Win Up to ₦10 Million as a Nigerian Undergraduate

If you are a Nigerian undergraduate student with a passion for technology and innovation, this is one opportunity you cannot afford to miss in 2026. OPay, one of Nigeria’s leading fintech companies, has officially launched its National Innovation Challenge — and the prizes are unlike anything seen before in Nigeria’s student innovation space.
Here is everything you need to know, straight from the official OPay website.
What Is the OPay Innovation Challenge 2026?
The OPay Innovation Challenge is not just a competition. It is a full innovation programme that combines financial rewards, professional mentorship, digital skills training, and real job placement opportunities — all designed specifically for Nigerian undergraduate students.
The challenge is built on OPay’s existing ₦1.2 billion, 10-year scholarship commitment to Nigerian education. In 2026, OPay has expanded the programme by adding this Innovation Challenge in partnership with Google, creating what is now one of the most ambitious youth technology initiatives in Nigeria’s history.
The total prize pool is ₦19.2 million in grants and scholarships.
Why This Challenge Is Different From Other Competitions
Most student competitions give you a trophy and a certificate. The OPay Innovation Challenge gives you something far more valuable — a complete platform to launch your career.
Winners do not just walk away with money. They receive mentorship from industry experts, advisory support to develop their prototype into a real product, national media coverage, and direct job placement opportunities within Nigeria’s tech ecosystem.
For a student still in school, that combination is life-changing.

Innovation Themes — What Problem Can You Solve?
One of the most exciting aspects of this challenge is that you are not limited to one field. OPay has opened the competition across eight high-impact sectors that are actively reshaping Africa’s future:
- Fintech and Digital Payments — improving how Africans access and move money
- Healthtech — using technology to solve healthcare challenges
- Cybersecurity and Data Protection — building safer digital environments
- Edtech — transforming how Africans learn and access education
- AI and Automation for Social Good — using artificial intelligence to solve everyday problems
- Climate and Sustainability Solutions — addressing Africa’s environmental challenges
- Agritech — modernising farming and food systems
- Digital Tools for SMEs and the Informal Sector — helping small businesses grow
If you have an idea that fits into any of these areas, you already have a starting point.

Tips to Strengthen Your Application
Getting shortlisted from over 100,000 applications requires more than a good idea. Here is how to stand out:
Choose a real problem. The strongest applications address challenges that ordinary Nigerians face every day — not theoretical problems. Think about what is broken in your community and how technology could fix it.
Show your Canva and Gemini skills. OPay has specifically listed AI-assisted design as a requirement. Practice the Canva and Gemini workflow before you apply and make sure your submission reflects that skill clearly.
Build a strong team. The best teams combine different skills — someone who can design, someone who can research, someone who can present, someone who can write, and someone who understands the technical side. Five people with complementary skills beat five people with the same background every time.
Be clear and specific. Do not describe a vague idea. Explain exactly what you are building, who it is for, and what problem it solves. Judges respond to clarity.
Address financial hardship honestly. OPay has stated that preference will be given to students facing financial difficulty. If this applies to you, document it clearly in your application.
Is the OPay Innovation Challenge Genuine?
Yes — completely. This is not a third-party competition or a scholarship agent listing. The OPay Innovation Challenge 2026 is hosted directly on OPay’s official website at opayweb.com. It has been confirmed and reported by TechCabal, Daily Trust, Guardian Nigeria, and Daily Post Nigeria — some of Nigeria’s most trusted media organisations.
OPay is a registered and operating fintech company in Nigeria with millions of active users. This challenge is an extension of their existing scholarship programme that has been running for multiple years. Your application goes directly to OPay — there are no agents, no fees, and no middlemen involved.
Final Word
Opportunities like this do not come often. A ₦10 million grant, mentorship from industry leaders, Google partnership, national recognition, and a direct pathway into Nigeria’s tech industry — all available to an undergraduate student with the right idea and the drive to pursue it.
The deadline is June 14, 2026. You have very little time. Start forming your team today, choose your innovation theme, and begin building your application.
This could be the opportunity that changes everything.
