About CHAWASSA

The Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation Authority of Chato (CHAWASSA), operating under the Ministry of Water of the United Republic of Tanzania, has announced multiple volunteer contract positions available for one year. The authority is headquartered along Mkuyuni Road, S.L.P 98, Chato, Tanzania, and is responsible for providing clean and safe water services to the people of Chato District in Geita Region.

Position 1: Fundi Mchundo Grade II – Fundi Bomba (8 Posts)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend and report all water leakage incidents
  • Follow up on reported leakages at water supply pipes and carry out necessary repairs
  • Prepare a list of materials required for new connections
  • Participate in water connection for new customers following required measurements and procedures
  • Attend and report water losses, distribution faults, and recommend corrective measures
  • Prepare data for periodic reports to the supervisor
  • Attend and report leakage or seepage through the water distribution service lines
  • Prepare individual performance targets, criteria, and standards as part of the performance agreement
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Form Four or Form Six (IV/VI) certificate with a Level II Plumbing trade certificate from a government-recognised institution, plus at least one year of work experience.

Salary

Salary will be paid according to the Authority’s guidelines.


Position 2: Fundi Mchundo Grade II – Msoma Mita (5 Posts)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform meter reading
  • Distribute water bills
  • Collect water bills and customer debts
  • Suspend and restore water services to customers
  • Inspect water meters
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Form Four or Form Six (IV/VI) certificate with a Level II Plumbing trade certificate from a government-recognised institution, plus at least one year of work experience.

Salary

Salary will be paid according to the Authority’s guidelines.


Position 3: Assistant Records Officer Grade II(Mtunza Kumbukumbu) (1 Post)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Register incoming and outgoing correspondence
  • Distribute and receive files for management officers
  • File documents in racks and filling cabinets
  • Track and record the circulation of files within the institution (file tracking)
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Form Four or Form Six (IV/VI) certificate and have completed an NTA Level 6 qualification in Records Management from a government-recognised institution. Computer literacy and at least one year of work experience are required.

Position 4: Assistant Secretary Grade II(Katibu) (1 Post)

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Form Four or Form Six certificate and a Secretarial Studies certificate. They must have passed a typing/shorthand test in both Kiswahili and English at a speed of 100 words per minute from a recognised institution. Computer literacy from a government-recognised institution is mandatory, including certificates in Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet, Email, and Publisher. At least one year of work experience is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Write letters and various official reports and other routine documents
  • Receive and direct office visitors to relevant officers
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper office arrangement
  • Keep records of events, appointments, duties, and other important information
  • Answer and receive all incoming calls, faxes, and telexes and distribute information to relevant officers
  • Maintain records of all office files and distribute them to relevant officers for execution and return to the registry
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor

Position 5: Assistant GIS Officer Grade II(Afisa GIS Msaidizi) (1 Post)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in collecting GIS data through various methods including GPS, electronic data recording devices, digitisers, and other means
  • Perform database management and GIS data accounting, including metadata creation
  • Enter, update, and maintain GIS databases including making security backups and maintaining connectivity with other databases
  • Participate in preparing maps and their views, and in updating maps and information on CHAWASSA’s current and planned water network
  • Assist in building, developing, and maintaining CHAWASSA’s GIS systems
  • Collect information on water network areas and CHAWASSA water requirements
  • Collect WSSA infrastructure data and convert paper maps to GIS data
  • Process, analyse, and validate geographic data to build programmes for converting GIS data from one system to another
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a degree in one of the following fields: Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or any other related field from a government-recognised institution, plus at least one year of work experience.

Position 6: Laboratory Technician Grade II (2 Posts)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily water sample tests to determine the type and level of chemicals needed to treat water
  • Collect water samples from various parts of the water treatment plant for analysis and record keeping
  • Conduct water treatment processes and water requirements
  • Perform physical, chemical, and bacteriological analysis of water and water requirements
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is in good working condition
  • Participate in the collection, design, and evaluation of data on water production and distribution, and water and sanitation quality
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory investigations
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a certificate or FTC in one of the following fields: Water Laboratory Engineering or Water Laboratory Engineering Technology, or any other related field from a government-recognised institution, plus at least one year of work experience.

Position 7: Plant Operator – Mwendesha Mitambo ya Maji(2 Posts)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate water pumps according to agreed schedules and ensure the correct amount of water is pumped from the reservoirs
  • Monitor water levels in reservoirs and water storage tanks
  • Perform maintenance and servicing of water pumps, dosing pumps, water inlets, and open and close valves
  • Monitor electricity supply and keep records of power outages
  • Ensure the required levels of chlorine and other chemicals are added according to the required standards
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Form Four or Form Six (IV/VI) certificate and have passed the Trade Test Grade II / Level II / NTA Levels 4 and 5 in one of the following fields: Pump Machinery, Electronics, Building Electrical Installation, or any other related field from a government-recognised institution, plus one year of work experience.

  7. Applicants who studied outside Tanzania must ensure their certificates are verified and recognised by the relevant authority (NECTA or NACTE).
  8. Applicants who submit forged certificates or false information will face legal action.
  9. All applications must be written in Kiswahili.
  10. All applicants must attach a copy of their National Identification Card (NIDA) or National Identification Number from NIDA.
