Job Overview

NMB Bank is currently looking for a dynamic and experienced professional to fill the position of Relationship Manager for Institutional Banking based in Zanzibar covering both Unguja and Pemba islands. What You Will Be Doing

Relationship Management and Business Growth

You will manage an existing portfolio of institutional banking clients including both government and private institutions across Zanzibar. Your role will involve growing the portfolio by acquiring new profitable institutional clients while retaining and deepening relationships with existing ones.

You will work closely with other business units within NMB Bank to drive the institutional banking strategy in Zanzibar. This includes identifying new business opportunities, developing pricing proposals, supporting the preparation of requests for proposals, and offering tailored financial solutions such as payment and collection services.

You will also take the lead in market intelligence activities by monitoring ongoing and upcoming development projects across Zanzibar and advising senior management accordingly. Building long term institutional banking penetration plans for the Zanzibar market will be a core part of your responsibilities.

Customer Service Excellence

Delivering outstanding customer service is at the heart of this role. You will interact frequently and closely with all clients to understand their evolving financial needs and provide advisory services that help them make informed decisions. You will ensure that all clients enjoy a premium onboarding experience and receive industry leading service at every touchpoint.

You will also play a key liaison role between clients, the service delivery team, and back office functions to ensure seamless execution of financial solutions.

Risk Management and Compliance

You will be responsible for maintaining a high quality asset book and ensuring full regulatory compliance across your portfolio. This includes conducting thorough Know Your Customer checks, preparing quality credit applications for submission, managing the loan book within the bank’s risk appetite, and ensuring all client documentation is properly recorded and maintained.

You will work closely with the Risk, Credit, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure that the portfolio remains sound and within the bank’s policies at all times.

Who Should Apply

NMB Bank is looking for a qualified and experienced banking professional who meets the following requirements:

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Statistics, Research, or any related field. A master’s degree in business studies is an added advantage. Postgraduate education or certification in banking is also highly desirable.

Experience

A minimum of four years of experience in relationship management specifically managing government and public sector clients. Experience working in Zanzibar is a mandatory requirement for this position.

Skills

The ideal candidate must have strong knowledge of general banking practices, policies, and the regulatory environment. They must demonstrate excellent customer relationship skills, strong numerical and financial analysis abilities, and the capacity to analyze complex financial statements. Fluency in both English and Swahili is required along with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
